The First Annual Peoples Choice Award Competition Oshawa

We were honoured in attending the "First Annual People's Choice Award Competition (Ontario) " Fundraiser for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation - Ontario Chapter. This event took place at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 43 in Oshawa, Ontario, on Sunday March 26, 2006.

There were 10 Elvis Tribute Artists' competing for the 'Peoples Choice Award'. There was a very large crowd that gathered at the legion for this event, much larger than was anticipated, we heard there was at approx. 260 persons.

Joanna (LadyLuckMusic), graced us all with her usual wonderful stage presence by welcoming all to the 'First Annual People's Choice Award Competitions' and at the same time filled us in on the venue for the afternoon., she then introduced the first special guest for the afternoon all the way from Edmonton, Alberta - Robin Kelly (Collingwood Elvis Fest 2002 Champion). We must confess that Robin did a good job of getting all into the mood for the a lot of Elvis attention this afternoon, as when he broke out in song, the 'Spirit of Elvis' just came flowing out of him - he has the entire audience totally captivated by him even more when he leaves the stage and jumps up on a nearby table to a table of women with their attention totally focused on him ~ what a way to prepare us for 10 ETAS that we were awaiting to put on one heck of a show for us.

Following Robin Kelly's performance, the competition of ETAS began. This was the most exciting experience for us and everybody in attendance. To share with you all the appreciation that people in the audience got from each ETAS performance, we had one group of ladies that stood out in the crowd and they were called "the red hat ladies".

These ladies received a lot of attention from all of the "ETAS", these ladies never failed to get involved with in some small way with each of the ETAS' set, flashing their cameras.

Each ETA put on one amazing show, they were all winners in their own right! There were cameras and hooting and hollering from every corner of the room, everybody loved them. When it came to people really wanting to get good pictures of the ETAS up close, everybody would head for the front of the stage and then there were flashes going off in every direction, you could not tell a fan from the media ~ goes to show the kind of show these guys were putting on. At the back of the room was a light that followed the ETAS around the room as they made their rounds during their performances ~ as they were putting scarves around some ladies necks and hopping on some tables ~ and this definitely evening of Elvis fanaticism.

No Elvis/ETA fans went home empty handed tonight, there was a ton of memorabilia and also Cds and pictures to be autographed of ETAS at the back of the room on a table, many fans managed to get autographs during the intermission and after the show.

There was a camera crew outside interviewing Bruce Heron and one could see that this was not just some any ETA event, but a truly amazing time to be held by all and not too soon to be forgotten.

Around approximately 5:30 PM or so, each ETA had the opportunity to all get up in reverse order from what they competed in and sing a song , this then gave us all the opportunity to vote on who will be the winner of the days "Peoples Choice Award". This was a tough one as all the guys were very, very good!

There was one final performance of another guest performer just before the winner of the People Choice Award Winner was announce and it was an ETA John Cigan from Pickering, Ontario.

Joanna takes the mic after John's performance and announces the winner ~ The winner for the "Peoples Choice Award" was David Muggeridge - he did an excellent job on a Gospel song, with a very powerful voice. Guys you all did great and you all are winners in our books! David - congratulations!

The evening came to a close with our "People's Choice Award Winner" David Muggeridge singing My Way!
