January 6th, 2006 we celebrated that beautiful man Elvis Presley's birthday with a spectacular party! I arrived in the town of Aurora IL for the Elvis Birthday Tribute show. The theater was awesome, very old and beautiful ceilings. We loved our seats you could almost touch the stage!!! Promptly at 8pm the show started and we saw some very very handsome photos of Elvis on the screen with Elvis himself singing MEMORIES to us. The crowd was oohing and ahhing...it was touching. The party began! Dan Lentino and the Ambassadors with the Jordanaires, the Sweets, Millie Kirkland, and DJ Fontana. Those men still sing the same. They sang a couple of gospel songs while Ryan changed to the Army years. He brought out Elvis back up singer Miss Millie Kirkham. Ryan had her sing backup to Blue Christmas and oh my that little lady owned the place. She is so great and sounded just like she does on Elvis record. That was something to hear! Then Ryan changed into the LEATHER! We were taken back to 1968! Christine and I are getting really excited cuz we think....Shawn is coming next!!!!! The Sweet Inspirations come out, they sing a couple of songs and the Vegas years start...again it is Ryan? We were looking at each, we never had seen Ryan in a jumpsuit before. We were starting to get worried that our favorite ETA of all time was sick or something!!!!! Ryan did Polk Salad. That is really one we like to see Shawn do....no one can wiggle those chains like him! Intermission came and we knew Shawn would be next. I didn't move from my seat....I was soooo excited, Christines palms were sweating, Terri found us and I got a big giant hug! Really great to see her for a just a minute (we would see each other later). AND Then, OH yes, the lights dim, the stage is black, Dan is up there in the dark announcing Shawn, and the Concert Years, my heart was pounding with the drum! The lights start searching the audience and the back of the theater...everyone is looking every which way to see where he is! Here he comes!!!!! Security surrounds him, he jumps up on the stage looking exactly...and I MEAN exactly like Elvis Presley is actually there. The place is going nuts! Shawn gets his black guitar on, he is wearing the snowflake suit, and a blue scarf, starts singing CC Rider and then he gave out a scarf and the place went nuts with girls running up the stage. If you recall I said we could almost touch the stage....we were getting our toes trampled on! I couldn't move, we couldn't see a thing. Must have been just like that for Elvis. Shawn was rocking that place! Security finally came and moved the women out, thank you! Shawn sang Patch It Up, oh yes! That was a good replacement for Polk Salad...but personally I would have liked to have Shawn do Polk Salad too. He sang Just Pretend, Amazing Grace, How Great Thou Art so beautiful I saw Christine wiping away a tear. It was really neat when Shawn had the Jordanaires and the Sweet Inspirations and Miss Millie gather around the piano for Amazing Grace because it looked just like Elvis standing there. Shawn was so awesome! You know I loved every single minute, even everytime I got trampled. At some point Shawn noticed me sitting there and I had a rose for him..but for some reason...I was frozen, he went and got a scarf and before I could get up there...here they come again, but he held off and saved that scrarf until I could move..lol...and I got a beautiful sweaty but smelling so good scarf! I felt in a time warp again, moving in slow motion. Shawn did the American Triology...and had his cape on, I have never seen that before, that was so cool. When the flag dropped the people stood up..it was very moving. That ended Shawn's performance...we all were standing and clapping and Omar came and brought every one of them up to the front, and the place was crazy with applause. Elvis was given a great tribute and party! Happy Birthday Elvis Presley we all still love you so much! Christine and I sat there mesmerized for a long time. Then we decided we had better get out there to see Shawn! I found Terri and hugged her a bunch. She is so sweet and Shawn is so relaxed having her there assisting him. I think she should be with him on all his road trips! What a great time we had just talking. They were very tired, can you imagine getting up at 3 AM for the TV shows and rehearsing all day and then talking with all the fans until midnight. They held up like troopers. When I finally got to see Shawn up close the first hug he got was a really huge hug and we took lots of photos...I will be always willing to gather up the hugs! Shawn looked so handsome. We said our good byes and they left to head for Indiana. All I know is....SHAWN KLUSH ROCKS!!!!!!
