We are first and foremost Elvis fans, blessed with the ability to appreciate not only Elvis’ music, but his great sense of humor and the ability he had to make us laugh. Most of all, we should appreciate the kindness and love he showed towards his fellow man. Elvis never judged a person, Elvis never criticized a person. The Elvis Tribute Artist is passionate about paying homage to a great entertainer by performing - and the Elvis fan is passionate about paying homage to Elvis’ memory by showing support for the ETA performances. That’s what fans do - and the fans who came together at this 71st Birthday Celebration had one heck of a party!
The weather was great, folks were in a fantastic mood and the stage was set to welcome the talented performers of the second annual Elvis Birthday Celebration! The party began the night before at the Best Western Hotel, where the gals of Memphis Motion entertained the audience by singing familiar "50's & 60's Oldies" that took us down memory lane and prompted the crowd to join in the vocals. A few Brantford ElvisFest champs were among the ETAs who got up to sing and folks were thrilled these entertainers included Pete Paquette, one of the stars of Saturday's Birthday Show. Collingwood, Brantford & Lake George winner, Pete had 'em rockin' & a reelin' in their chairs, that's for sure and he kept our party going strong in the Elvis spirit! It's said there's never a dull moment in show-biz and that adage rang true on Friday night. Fans were a little disappointed that Jesse's 2 hour direct flight from Wisconsin to Brantford actually turned in to a 14 hour airport extravaganza - double transfer flight, complete with his luggage at another destination, but when he finally got to the hotel at around eleven, he received a well deserved round of applause, along with hugs and kisses from the ladies. Those ladies didn't miss the opportunity to get autographs and photos of all the ETAs during the night, but actually mobbed Rick Alviti as soon as he walked in the room! Rick had been on national TV that afternoon and based on the line up of people in the "party room", everyone in town saw the show - and couldn’t wait to see Rick in person! As you take a gander at the photos on the pages of our pictorial, you’ll notice that Pete Paquette made them “Stop”, Rick Alviti made them “Look” and Jesse Aron made them “Listen”. These exciting performers were backed by one of Canada's leading tribute bands, Rudy & The Angels, back-up vocals provided by the ultra talented Memphis Motion - and yours truly, in spite of the sudden on set of laryngitis, had a great time hosting the event. We'd like to thank all of you wonderful, loving, Elvis fans for making our E-Birthday party the success that it was. Your love for Elvis Presley inspired the performers to entertain you with the spirit of Elvis in their souls, ensuring Elvis' memory stays alive! Together we partied ‘till the wee hours both Friday & Saturday night, we laughed and were very entertained and the only sad part was when it came time to say Adios, until we meet again. Thanks to LLM photographer Doug McCready for capturing some of the highlights of the weekend and who knows, maybe you’ll see yourselves somewhere in this pictorial of the second annual Birthday Celebration! God Bless, Joanna
